Restore Erection Capacity in Men with Stem Cell
Erectile Dysfunction is one of the most dreadful things that might happen to a man’s life. Most of the men are embarrassed by erectile dysfunction and believe it is a natural part of ageing or that they can handle it on their own. Whatever the reason, ED affects men of all age groups. It can have a negative impact on your mental health, confidence, and self-esteem. Researchers believe that approximately half of the men aged 35 to 70, and around one-quarter of younger men, struggle from erectile dysfunction.
Causes of Erectile Dysfunction
Some of the possible reasons for erectile dysfunction could be high blood pressure, prostate surgery, cardiovascular diseases, psychological issues and diabetes. Current treatments, such as PDE5 inhibitors such as Viagra and Cialis, injections, shockwave therapy or penile transplants, all have drawbacks, therefore scientists have been looking for a solution to restore sexual performance naturally. The current study focuses on patients who have suffered bodily harm as a result of prostate cancer surgery (radical prostatectomy).
Current Stem Cell Studies on Erectile Dysfunction
According to new clinical trial findings, stem cells can restore enough erectile function to enable formerly incapable men to have intercourse spontaneously. This is the first time that stem cell therapy has resulted in individuals who have restored enough erectile function to engage in sexual activity.
- Several groups have attempted in recent years to establish stem cell treatment as a remedy for erectile dysfunction, but the advances have not been adequate to allow affected men to engage in full sexual intercourse. According to data given at the European Association of Urology meeting in London, 8 out of 21 patients effectively regained sexual function.
- The researchers from Odense, Denmark, employed stem cells extracted from abdominal fat cells, none of the 21 males experienced any notable side effects during the trial period or the preceding year. The stem cells were isolated and then administered into the corpus cavernosum portion of the penis.
- Following six months of treatment, eight of the twenty-one patients indicated that they had restored significant erectile function to engage in penetrative sexual activity. This progress has lasted a year, showing that this treatment may have protracted advantages.
Is Stem Cell Therapy for ED effective?
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a prevalent concern for men as they age (even young men struggle too), according to extensive studies. It’s hardly unexpected; natural ageing affects all of us, causing our tissues and biological systems to lose function as we become older. What is surprising, unfortunately, is the consequence that any level of ED has on the quality of life of its victims. But there is some good news! Preclinical and clinical trial results support the therapeutic potential of stem cell treatment for erectile dysfunction caused by underlying conditions.
